Interview: Riley

Pets, they’re your best friend and confidant. Big or small, fluffy or a bit scruffy, it doesn’t matter, we love them all. They’re there for you unconditionally and the feeling is mutual. Our interview series celebrates this special bond between animals and hoomans. Let the awws begin.

Hooman: My name is Kyla and I think cats don’t deserve the hate they get!

Cat: Riley ( almost 1 year old) aka Bubby.

Home: South Africa

I adopted Riley at a local animal rescue center known as the Cat Shack when she was 10 weeks old. At the time she was one of only three adoptable kittens. The other two were siblings, inseparable, and a lot smaller. I just knew that Riley must have not been everyone’s choice because she was still there and just a little bigger than the others and everyone just wants a small cat! But the second I sat down by her she jumped up on my shoulders and I decided she was perfect!

I’ve just always loved the name Riley and I think it’s so cute, so that’s how Riley got her name.

Riley is very affectionate but also extremely energetic, she'll go from running at the speed of light down the hall to cuddling up next to you. My favourite thing about her is our bond. She makes me more appreciative for animals and animal life.

A typical Riley day is like this: Riley wakes up, goes to eat some breakfast, and drinks some water. Riley then spends the majority of her day outside whether she’s sleeping, chasing bugs, or playing with the other three family cats. She does often come inside during the day, but mainly she only does that if it’s cold or she’s tired, otherwise it’s outside! Riley is constantly catching birds and mice and bringing them in the house! In the evening she sits by the fire with her best friend Jinx.

Some funny anecdotes about Riley: One time when I was getting ready for school I was buttoning my school pants and there was a loose thread on the back of them, she jumped up to get the thread and managed to pants me halfway! Once, she’s also straight up stolen a whole half a PB&J sandwich from me!
