Interview: Mochi
Pets, they’re your best friend and confidant. Big or small, fluffy or a bit scruffy, it doesn’t matter, we love them all. They’re there for you unconditionally and the feeling is mutual. Our interview series celebrates this special bond between animals and hoomans. Let the awws begin.
Hooman: Cookie aka Cooks
Doggo: Mochi aka Moch or Mr. Moch (9 years old)
Home: Hong Kong
You could say it was love at first sight! I saw Mochi (German Shepherd) on Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP’s) Facebook. He had heartworm and needed a foster family before he could be adopted. I fostered him and immediately fell in love. A month went by, he recovered from heartworm and I couldn’t imagine life without him so I adopted him! (Sidenote: here at kindtails, we love a “foster fail”).
His original name was Ochi. I changed it to Mochi because it was cute and had a nice ring to it, plus I figured he would still recognise being called since they sounded similar.
Mochi is easy going, super sweet, patient, and clean (he licks himself like a cat!). He’s very gentle and recently has shown that he is great with human babies. He may have been on the older side when I adopted him, but he’s super clever. He knows how to play dead. I just point a fake finger gun at him and say “BANG” and he slowly falls to the floor, glassy eyed and all.
Like all adoptions, there was an adjusting period for him to get comfortable in his new home and meeting my friends. Now he lives the good life: eat, chill, walk, sleep, and repeat. He’s very chill and doesn’t cause any trouble or worry, despite whatever opinions may have about his breed. But every time I've felt a lump, even if it’s a fatty lump, I get a little nervous!
Since adopting Mochi, I definitely go outdoors more often. I love taking Mochi to the parks and when selecting photos to submit, I noticed all of them were in nature! It’s also great to have someone to hug anytime of the day.
