Interview: Floppy and Carrot

Pets, they’re your best friend and confidant. Big or small, fluffy or a bit scruffy, it doesn’t matter, we love them all. They’re there for you unconditionally and the feeling is mutual. Our interview series celebrates this special bond between animals and hoomans. Let the awws begin.

Doggo 1: Floppy (5.5 years old) aka Flop, Flops, Floop, The Flop, Chunky Boy, Loafie, Lil Loaf, Lil Chunk, The Boy

Doggo 2: Carrot (2.5 years old) aka Baby Carrot, Carrie, Cawwit, The Baby

Home: Maryland, USA

When we first met Floppy, we immediately noticed his long floppy ears that reminded us of a bunny rabbit. After spending just a few days with him, we realized that he definitely lived up to that name in both looks and personality (click here to see him in action)! He’s very laid back, with a touch of neurotic tendencies.

The first time we took Floppy to the beach, he had never seen sand before. As soon as he felt  how soft it was, he immediately started rubbing his face all over it. When he looked back up, his eyes were covered in sand. He then proceeded to rub his face further into the sand, trying to get the sand out of his eyes. To this day, he still hasn’t learned his lesson and cannot resist rubbing his face in the soft sand whenever he’s at the beach (he now wears goggles).

Carrot is sassy and sweet. She will literally fall over and start melting into a puddle on the floor as soon as anyone baby talks to her. When deciding on a name for Carrot, we wanted to follow the bunny-related theme. But we also have an appreciation for food-based pet names. Carrot seemed perfect, since it also fit with the colour of her fur!

When Carrot was a puppy, she was small enough to fit through the fence posts in our backyard. One day, she escaped and no one could find her anywhere. After a while, we heard her barking outside. Turns out that she had run around our backyard to our front door and was sitting on the front step the whole time waiting for us to open it!

Their typical day is like this: Wake up, wake everybody else up, go outside, eat breakfast! Floppy then goes back outside and spends the rest of the day by the pool. Sometimes he paddles around on an inflatable pool toy in order to eat leaves, bugs, and all other floating debris in the pool. Carrot goes upstairs and spends the rest of the day in mom’s study keeping her company

In the evening we go for an hour-long off leash hike, come home and jump in the pool to clean off, eat dinner, then spend the rest of the evening cuddling on the couch. They’re also always down to cuddle! I love that they can be couch potatoes all day, but are also always ready for a hike or swim.
