Interview: Dumbo

Pets, they’re your best friend and confidant. Big or small, fluffy or a bit scruffy, it doesn’t matter, we love them all. They’re there for you unconditionally and the feeling is mutual. Our interview series celebrates this special bond between animals and hoomans. Let the awws begin.

Hooman: Annalise

Doggo: Dumbo (2 years old), because of his big ears and because I call him baby almost all the time

Home: Hong Kong

I met Dumbo while I was volunteering at an animal shelter. He was sold at a pet shop as a puppy and was bought by a young couple. But the couple soon realised that they couldn’t handle how energetic he was (Corgi + Collie = a ball of energy), and he also had some hereditary skin and pancreas issues. So the couple gave him up to a shelter (he was around 6 months at that point), and he was THE SWEETEST little man at the shelter. I couldn’t resist and decided to adopt Dumbo!

Dumbo is the softest dog ever—he never bites, I’ve never seen him growl or snarl at other dogs, and he loves kisses. He’s a little skittish (right now his biggest enemy is my water bottle), but he still loves to sniff around. He loves meeting new people (he’s not very interested in dogs for some reason) and going new places. He’s pretty energetic, but once we go on our daily walks he’s happy lounging and playing at home.

A usual day for Dumbo would be waking up at 5:30am with me, and we’ll go wakeboarding together. He stays on the boat, sometimes goes for a quick swim, and we run around a little bit before going home. Then I go to school, and Dumbo takes his morning nap. We go on another short walk/hike when I come back from school, and when we get home, we have a little snack. Dumbo‘s favourite time of the day is dinner time and the pre-bed time cuddles. We wake up the next morning and repeat this!

Favourite hooman: Me or my mom.

Favourite animal friend: A pigeon who we call Kevin (Kevin's a girl) who stops by our window everyday.

Favourite toys or games: Tag (he doesn’t fully grasp the idea of it, but he likes getting chased and chasing).

Favourite food or snack: Lamb jerky.

Prefers to be naked or dressed up: Naked, but will tolerate wearing a fun costume once in a while.

Likes: His plastic chicken chew toy.

Dislikes: He absolutely HATES the vacuum cleaner.

If Dumbo was a hooman, he would be…Zack from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, or Peter Quill (aka Star Lord) from Guardians of the Galaxy. If he was a cartoon character, probably young Simba from the Lion King.
