Interview: Creampuff

Pets, they’re your best friend and confidant. Big or small, fluffy or a bit scruffy, it doesn’t matter, we love them all. They’re there for you unconditionally and the feeling is mutual. Our interview series celebrates this special bond between animals and hoomans. Let the awws begin.

Bunny: Creampuff (10 months old as of June 17)

Alias: Cream, Creamie, Cream Cream, Baby, Fuzzy Baby, Puppy, Mama Boi Bo

Home: Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

I got Creampuff from my senior. Unfortunately, there are no rabbit rescues in Malaysia and our local shelters only take in cats and dogs, so there isn't a place where you can adopt rabbits here.

Why is he named Creampuff? Well I'm usually not very fond of sweet things, but I really like the cream puffs from a Korean bakery in my area and they're easily my favourite pastries. When Creampuff was a baby, his coat colour reminded me a lot of cream puffs. He was a much lighter shade of brown back then and his coat has darkened considerably since then.

Creampuff is extremely affectionate, he actually enjoys cuddles when he consents to it and he'll be purring non-stop. He also licks us a lot and even gives us kisses on our noses and sometimes our lips. He's a huge attention seeker and very clingy, we always have to watch our steps around the house to avoid tripping over him, he's a literal trip hazard! We describe him as a “velcro bunny” since he's always sticking to us and always wants to join in whatever we're doing.

He's a brave and fearless little guy, he's never afraid to try new things and instead of being stressed and scared in new environments, he gets extremely curious and in no time at all, he'll act as if he's lived in that place all his life.

He's also a very smart bunny and very food-motivated as well! With the promise of food, he can be cued to do almost anything and to pose with anything. Currently, he knows a total of 37 tricks! In fact, He's a national record titleholder! He was listed in the Malaysia Book of Records for the record of “Most Number of Tricks by a Rabbit in 1 Minute” with a total of 21 tricks. You can see him looking proud posing next to his award here.

A typical Creampuff day goes like this: In the morning, my mom is usually the first person he sees (which is why he's so attached to her). She gives him his pellets for the morning and lets him out of his pen. Both of them will run around our balcony together and practise his tricks. After that, he'll wait for my brother and I to wake up, then it's another round of playtime for him along with some greens to munch on

Throughout the day, he'll be running around the house, but he'll take frequent naps in between. Around dinnertime, he'll be placed back into his pen and fed his pellets for dinner while we have our own dinner. Once he's done, he'll be patiently waiting for us to finish our dinner. After our dinner, he'll get another plate of greens and occasionally some fruits we have for dessert. After his greens, we'll clean his litter box and pen while he gets another run outside in the balcony.

Before we sleep, we'll put him back into his pen, check if he has enough hay and water to last the night before retiring for bed.

I love absolutely everything about him and it's hard to choose a favourite, but I just have to say that every time he comes running when I call him, it leaves a warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest to know how much he trusts me and how excited he is to see me. It’s like having a new baby in the house. He's my first rabbit, and initially it was a little difficult to get used to and I was worrying over every little thing. Now, I forgot what life was like before having him. He takes up a lot of our time and attention every day, but I wouldn't give that up for the world.
