5 Famous Dogs On Today’s TV Shows
Just a few of fun things, pet related of course. Not sponsored.
We all know Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and Beethoven, but what about the famous dogs on your screen today? Who’s wagging while you stream endless Netflix series or binge an entire series on Amazon? Here’s 5 famous dogs that are on today’s popular TV shows.
1. Cheddar on Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Cheddar is the beloved pet Pembroke Welsh Corgi of Captain Holt and his partner Kevin. He’s super smart, cute, and a regular at the precinct. He also has a thing for cake. Cheddar has been played by over three different Corgis (you can tell by their colouring and bobbed/non-bobbed tails), but Stewart holds the longest running role. Sadly, Stewart passed at age 13. His last day was spent with relaxing by the beach with full of In & Out burgers and fun. Stewart has passed on the role to his sister Stella (who’s doing a great job on set!).
First seen: The Party (Season 1 Episode 16)
Fun Fact: Cheddar won the annual Halloween heist in Season 4

2. Stella on Modern Family
Stella is a French Bulldog and the naughty troublemaking pet of the Pritchett family. At the beginning, Jay isn’t keen on keeping her, but as the series progresses, he becomes her biggest fan and probably favourite hooman. That’s how it always goes, isn’t it? Stella is played by two dogs, first Brigitte and from Season 4 onwards, Beatrice. Both have now unfortunately passed.
First seen: Good Cop Bad Dog (Season 2 Episode 22)
Fun fact: Brigitte and Beatrice were friends in real life.
3. Direwolves on Game of Thrones
These large, strong, intelligent, wolf-like pups certainly caught every viewer’s attention (and won their hearts) from the very first episode of this series. Left to fend for themselves, the six direwolves (Lady, Grey Wind, Shaggydog, Summer, Ghost, Nymeria)) lost their mom, but found a home with the Stark family. While CGI played a big part in enhancing their wild features, the direwolves were actually played by trained Northern Inuit Dogs, a crossbred relative of the Siberian Husky. What’s life like after the show? Some of gone home to the actors, some have passed, and we’re not too sure about the others.
First seen: Winter Is Coming (Season 1 Episode 1)
Fun fact: The Direwolf is the sigil of House Stark

4. Snuffles on Rick and Morty
A whole episode is dedicated to Snuffles, who briefly renames himself as Snowball, a small, fluffy white dog of who suddenly gains super intelligence and takes over the world (blame Jerry). We’re not sure what breed Snuffles is, but considering the Smith family and his depiction, he could be anything from a Terrier to a Maltese. Snuffles is voiced by Rob Raulsen, who also voiced other animal friends in shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Land Before Time (what a range!).
First seen: Lawnmower Dog (Season 1 Episode 2)
Best quote: “Where are my testicles, Summer? Where are my testicles, Summer? They were removed, where have they gone?”

5. Mr. Peanutbutter on Bojack Horseman
Another animated dog (but this one wears clothes and walks on two legs). Mr. Peanutbutter, voiced by Paul F. Tompkins, is an adult yellow Labrador Retriever, who’s the star of several TV shows in Hollywoo, Los Angeles. He’s perpetually positive, energetic, cheerful, and playful. Like a Lab. He sticks with his friends despite their tough times and is loyal to a fault. Like a Lab. He is apparently 6 feet tall and has a thing about grey v neck tshirts. Unlike a Lab.
First seen: BoJack Horseman: The BoJack Horseman Story, Chapter One (Season 1 Episode 1)
